The title of this blog comes from a song by John Mark McMillan. If you don’t know him, you should. His music is amazing and all of his lyrics have been powerful in my life at some point. The song is called “Closer.”
Come closer, closer to me.
Find me broken, find me bleeding
‘Cause I need more now than a fairy tale,
A god who lives in a book.
I need someone real.
So would you come?
Would you come?
If i begged you, would you come closer to me now?
That’s just part of an amazing song. I really latched on to this part because it’s something that hits close to home. As someone who was raised in Christian school where Bible was just another class in the day, it became easy to see God as someone who lived in a book. A cool story. A hard midterm. A fairy tale.
But God is so much more than that. A god in a book will fail you. A god in a book won’t be enough when life gets hard. We need someone real.
The God I worship, the Savior of my soul, is immensely real. He is a part of my life. He speaks to His people. He loves His children. He lives, now and forever.

Awesome, Caity. Love JMM
